Free Motion Embroidery class

Free Motion Embroidery ? with Confidence!

Instructor: Janet Clark
Use your machine in a new way!

I have found, over my years of teaching, that many people don?t realise their machines can do free motion embroidery (fme) ? or are a bit scared to try, so I have put together a series of lessons to guide you gently through. All you need is a sewing machine which does straight stitch and zig-zag ? and that you can lower the feed dogs (teeth). Virtually all machines will do this with no problem. With a selection of embroidery threads and a few other requirements ? you will soon be free motion stitching with confidence!

Class begins: March 18, 2016
Level: All levels

Free Motion Embroidery ? with Confidence! - by Janet Clark

Lesson One:
All about setting up your machine, which threads to use, how to adjust the tension and why we use different needles. We will also look at which fabrics are best, hoops and stabilisers as well as testing out fabrics you already have on hand. The lesson will cover FME straight stitch ? gaining control, filling stitches, outlining and lots of other things too.

Lesson Two:
FME zig-zag ? now the fun really begins! We will go through some of the effects you can create with zig-zag including fillings and whip stitch.

Lesson Three:
This lesson we will begin working on water soluble (w.s.) fabrics. Stitching grids to support further stitching ? and stitching across space! We will also look at the effects which changing tensions can create ? and colour blending too.

Lesson Four:

With your confidence now growing, this lesson we will print/paint/stamp onto fabric and FME the details. This will be a sampling lesson showing the different ways you can stitch the same design/picture and will end with a completed picture to mount or use on a purse ? or any other way you choose.

I will provide templates for the practice samples and a choice of pictures and designs for the final lesson. You can of course use your own designs instead if you prefer.
