Entry #1 by Beth

Celebrate Earth Day in retro style in this Christian Lacroix-inspired ensemble! This lovely outfit features a bubble skirt with matching shrug, both made from a vintage Hefty Contractor bag. The bubble is held in place at the bottom by no fewer than 30 genuine Office Depot brand staples. Accenting the skirt is a lovely trim of 100% genuine Duct Tape. The daring, midriff-baring bustier is a coordinating plastic bag featuring the classic Barnes & Noble pattern. It is fastened in the back with an elegant paper-clip closure. The shoes are also fully recycled, staring with a sturdy aluminum foil last, then covered in the same Duct Tape as the skirt trim to provide a unified look. In addition to being both 100% recycled and recyclable, this outfit also boasts the unique distinction of being 100% naturally waterproof. Just the thing for those tempestuous spring evenings on the town.

Nat says:  Puffy and cinched, this doll screams Christian Lacroix. The use of materials is thoughtful and cohesive. The only thing the doll lacks is a "PoP" of color which I think could have been infused with a different choice, (more vibrant) hair color, nail polish, and/or jewelry. Love the description of the doll and the fact the ensemble is "100 % naturally waterproof".

Fran says: Yes, she is  Christian Lacroix BUT she also screams Dior (bubble skirt) and McQueen (Shoulder Wrap).  Fantastic use of the vintage Hefty contractor bag and other recycled materials.  The silver Duct Tape heels are perfect for her ensemble.   A bit more color would have made her stand out.

Entry #2 by Jennie Louden

Costume made from dead flower petals, seed heads, pictures from magazine, sliced plastic wine cork, cd and an egg cup.

Nat says: The items used for this doll are so clever and well composed, it's hard to believe anything has been recycled. The design is soft and romantic looking, yet is a bit edgy with the wired egg cup cap/hat. If I were to choose which ensemble I would wear myself, this would be my choice. I love the colors and the impression that the dress looks very comfy.

Fran says: Very creative use of items in the skirt. I love her pose, she looks lovely sitting. Great use of the wire egg cup , it pulls her ensemble together.   Love the natural soft colors.

Entry #3 and our winner
by Lucy Landry

Chloe's doing a tap dance number to jail house rock. It's a talent show, so she made her outfit all by herself, and out of recycled materials, too!  She's wearing a scoop neck, long sleeved T-shirt made from packaging sheet foam and a tyvek bodice vest, cinched with a yellow zipper, fastened with white buttons.. erm, pin heads.  So to top the rockin' shirt system, she's got a plastic garbage bag popped-collar, short jacket, and she was lucky enough to procure enough plastic garbage bag to make a mini skirt as well.. not to mention, shoes.  As a little decorative trim on her skirt, she found some garlic bag netting. This netting also appears on her French-style pill box hat; the pill box being a beer cap. Last, you can't forget her large fishnet tights, made of MORE netting!  How fishy, to find uses for all this trash.

Nat says: Amazing! Nothing has been overlooked on this doll. The recycled items have been so well integrated that this looks like a "must have" couture fashion. Love the short jacket, cinched waist, and ruffled underskirt. The distribution of color is well balanced and the pose/stance indicates this gal has attitude baby!

Fran says: Chloe rocks in her Jail House Rock ensemble.   Very clever use of the yellow zipper around her waist.  Love the yellow garlic bag ruffle on her skirt and hat.  The pill box hat , fishnet stockings and shoes pull Chloe's ensemble totally together for a High Fashion look from Paris.   Great use of recycled materials and colors.

That's it, folks!
