Project Runway

This week's challenge was to create an outfit schoolgirl of the future.  Rules called for a white blouse and a plaid skirt/jumper.

Entry #1 by Judi Ward

Bonnie says: Clever use of shape to echo the plaid pattern.  A bit racy!  The things kids will wear to school. A bit of "Sailor Moon" meets "Lolita"! The lovely hairdo just adds icing on the cake. ;o)

Tami says: Beautiful attention to detail. The matching bloomers with lace and thigh high stockings would certainly delight any visiting alien exchange student or any of the early 21st century pop princesses. How will she ever go back to those long, drab robes?

She is an alien, attending school in the States as an Exchange Student in the year 2090. Her home planet attire is a long, drab robe, so she is dancing with joy to be able to wear the cool duds she has seen on Earth TV.

Entry #2 by Carolyn Harris

Bonnie says: Everything old is new again...with funky boots! I would like to have seen the concept taken even further, though, more exaggerated. Colors remind me of my old uniform! Cringe...lol.

Tami says: Good use of contrasting prints (the plaid and the mini floral print leggings) and a whimsical touch with the marabou-like trim. Lovely shaped corset. Nice touch to place the plaid on the bias for a subtle contrast with the pleated skirt. This appears to be the transition between current day and futuristic school uniforms. It's still preferred by most space colonies in a bid to connect to Earth culture.

as fashion recycles & tradition prevails ... i went for tradition with a  few modern touches

Entry #3 by Wendy Whittemore

Bonnie says: Fashion forward robots...of course! I bet that "antenna hat" can get Galaxy Radio.  Lovely blouse.  I think I would like to have seen this one taken further as well. A little too traditional...sans hat, of course!

Tami says: Nice colorful plaid choice with a nod towards Japanese "sera-fuku" school girls. Amazing hat! Oh pardon me, Tiffany just informed me that it's the latest high tech wi-fi mind-meld mobile communicator device, version 2.0.

Tiffany is walking with her robot, and communicating with him via their antennae.  She doesn't need to carry school books, because her robot, Z4V4, has all of them stored in his memory. and in a flash, Tiffany can call up any book (or anything else) she needs.

Entry #4
Our winner - by Ellen Vorster

Bonnie says: Extremely "out of the box" choice of materials. Reminds me of Susanna Oroyan's dolls of dryer lint! Feminine, fun , and scholastic. Very original and creative. Love the jaunty cap!

Tami says: Brilliant use of former Brillo pads! Great echo of the rolled cuffs throughout the garment - hems, hat,  shoulders and even shoes. The overall look is very sophisticated and a very believable futuristic version of the traditional plaid school girl outfit. Very well designed and executed.

Rumour has it that pot scourers are going to be HUGE in 2078. Due to the incredible advances in technology pots and pans will be a thing of the past. The scourers however will be still around but they will make a great comeback and become the new shiny "black".

That's it, folks!
