FOR DOLL STREET MEMBERS ONLY

Pin Doll Swap - Summer 2011

What:  Pin dolls with a monochromatic theme (shades of one color).

Size should be 4” or smaller.

         Any media is acceptable.

How many:  Can trade up to three.

When: Must be to Empress Judi by Sept 30th.  Address is on the Contact Me page.

Packing Info:  Pack each doll in a baggie (snack baggies are good) and make sure your business card or a tag is attached to each doll.   Include a stamped, self-addressed label so I can return your dolls to you.   (Cash or check is okay too)   As usual, our overseas members don’t have to send return postage but everyone else does.    Return postage is only for US members.

Things to remember - if you make tiny dolls and post them in a tiny box then I am constrained on what I can send back to you.  Using a padded (bubble wrap lined) envelope is the best best.

Tangled Up

Create a doll incorporating Zentangles, any size, any medium and any thing you want as long as it incorporates Zentangles.  You keep your own doll, and send a good photo or multiple photos to Empress Judi by October 1st.  Email Judy Skeel to sign up

Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Doll Challenge - Round 2

I invite you to visit the Discworld and create a character from one of the many books in the series written by my favorite author, Terry Pratchett.  Discworld is a fantasy place, quite similar to Earth (Roundworld) and yet has many types of characters we do not commonly encounter on here.  There are the Wizards at the Unseen University, The Wyrd Sisters (Witches that practice headology), The Watch (comparable to our police forces), The Nac Mac Feegles (6” tall red headed blue pictsies with strange Scottish-like speech who would rather drink and fight than anything else) and my personal favorite character who appears in all the Discworld books sooner or later is DEATH, who speaks in all capital letters and adores cats.  There are several characters that pop up in multiple books and a few that are featured in one book only and all of these characters are welcome in this challenge.

We have been invited to display this collection at the next Discworld Convention NADCON http://nadwcon.org/ held in Madison, WI July 8-11, 2011.  Since the attendees will be Discworld Fans the focus of this challenge is to create a doll that truly represents the book character in appearance and with accessories.

Challenge Rules:

  1. Create a doll depicting any character from any Discworld book.
  2. Dolls should be sized appropriately to be displayed as a group. Adult humans should measure 12 to 14 inches, Dwarves would be half their height.  Nac MacFeegles can be life sized, which would be 6 inches in height.  Trolls are much larger than a human.  Any questions on scale, please contact Judy.
  3. Use any medium you choose, however fragile dolls may not travel.
  4. List the book you read and found your character in so others can read about your character.
  5. Send a photo to Judi no later than June 15, 2011.
  6. The dolls must be received by Judy Skeel no later than June 25th, 2011 so they can be repacked for travel.
  7. Nice stands and bases are required, no more than 8” square. All dolls must be fixed to the stand and stable to stand on their base to participate. If the stand is not decorative to match the character please choose a black stand which will blend into the black table cloth.  You can find black stands here: http://www.collectingwarehouse.com/Product-Home-Page/Doll-Stands-by-Kaiser
  8. This challenge is for Doll Street members only.
  9. Questions or concerns? Contact Judy Skeel
  10. Keep in mind Judy has a small car so over-sized, delicate or inappropriate pieces may not get to travel.
  11. Have a ball.  Or a Disc, as it were.

More info about the books is here.
